When is it not recommended to book a massage treatment?
Treatment restrictions
While massage therapy can be highly beneficial, there are certain situations where it may not be suitable or only recommended with limitations. Here’s a guide to help determine when it’s best to avoid or approach massage with caution:
- Pregnancy (1st to 3rd Month):
We do not recommend massage during the first trimester of pregnancy. Please consult with a healthcare provider before booking if you are pregnant. - Open Wounds:
While it is sometimes possible to work around affected areas, generally, massage is not recommended if you have open wounds. - Contagious Illnesses:
For illnesses such as COVID-19, herpes, or shingles, we advise against booking a massage to prevent spread and further complications. - Early-Stage Cold (First 4 Days):
If you’re in the initial stages of a cold, a massage can strain your body and may worsen symptoms. We recommend waiting until recovery. - Acute Inflammation (e.g., MS, Osteoarthritis):
If you’re experiencing an active flare-up of a condition like multiple sclerosis or osteoarthritis, it’s best to avoid massage until symptoms stabilize. - Recent Surgery or Procedures (Within 6 Months):
For surgeries or medical procedures within the past six months, the body requires energy for healing. We recommend waiting until a longer recovery period has passed. - Diabetes:
Diabetic clients should eat at least one hour before a massage. Massage can stimulate digestion, and without adequate food, there is a risk of diabetic coma. - Acute Herniated Disc:
Massage is not recommended in cases of an acute herniated disc. - Sciatica (Lower Back Pain):
For sciatica, gentle massage is possible, but the therapist should be informed of the condition to proceed with caution. - Cancer:
Clients undergoing chemotherapy should avoid massage. Otherwise, gentle massage may be possible with prior consultation.
If you have any of these conditions or questions about whether massage is suitable for you, please reach out to us or consult your healthcare provider. We prioritize client safety and tailor each session to individual needs.
